Scanning Your Computer for Spyware

You may scan for Spyware on your computer at any time.

  1. Open Anti-Spyware.
  2. Click the Scan Now button.
  3. Select a scan mode from the options provided. Choices are:
    • Smart System Scan: scans active processes, registry, Internet Explorer favourites for banned Web site addresses, hosts file, and deep scans the registry.
    • Full System Scan: scans active processes, registry, Internet Explorer favourites for banned Web site addresses, hosts file, deep scans the registry, scans within archives, non-executable files on the hard drive, and files larger than 4 Mbytes.
    • Custom System Scan: a scan customized by the user to perform any combination of scans available in a full system scan.
    • Scan for Ads: scans for tracking cookies, browser hijack files, and suspicious processes.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Anti-Spyware will scan your hard drive for spyware.
    Note: Scanning your system can take several minutes depending on the speed of your computer and the size of your hard drive.
  6. To cancel this scan click Cancel.
  7. When the scan is completed a summary screen will show you if any spyware was found on your computer.
  8. Click Next.
  9. The spyware files found will be displayed in the Scanning Results window.
  10. Select the checkbox for any object you would like removed from your computer.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Anti-Spyware will ask you to confirm the deletion of these files.
  13. To proceed and delete the files, click Ok.
  14. To stop deleting files click Cancel.
