Repairing a Virus Infection

If Shaw Secure Virus & Spy Protection finds a virus on your system, a window with the heading "Virus Detected" will be displayed. By default, Virus & Spy Protection will attempt to neutralize or remove the virus through the following steps:

  1. Delete the infected file
  2. Rename the infected file
  3. Disinfect the file
  4. Provide a link to a specialized removal tool

Shaw Secure will attempt each step in sequence until it is successful. During this process, you will be prompted at each step. Click the recommended option, and then click OK. If the step is unsuccessful, Shaw Secure will notify you and then move on to the next step.

Specialized Removal Tools

In some cases, viruses cannot be removed by deleting, renaming, or attempting to disinfect the infected file. In these cases, a specialized removal tool may be required.

For these types of viruses, Shaw Secure will provide you with a link to download a removal tool. Download the tool and save it to your desktop. Double-click the saved file to run the tool.
