Using Shaw Secure

Configuring Child Profile

The Child Profile lets you specify additional Web sites that you would like to block access to. You can also enable access to Web sites that are blocked by default.

The following instructions are for denying access to a Web site, however the procedure for allowing access is similar.

To allow access to a Web site using the task bar icon:
  1. Right-click the Shaw Secure task bar icon, and then click Parental Control.
  2. Click Show Web site List.
  3. Click the Denied Web sites tab.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Type your Parental Control password
  6. Type the Web site address you would like to allow access to.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Close.
To allow access to a Web site using the Shaw Secure interface:
  1. Right-click the Shaw Secure icon.
  2. Click Open Shaw Secure.
  3. Click the Parental Control tab.
  4. Click on Child, click Web site List.
  5. Click the Allowed tab.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Type the Web site address you would like the profile to have access to.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Close.
To deny access to a Web site currently displayed in Internet Explorer:
  1. On the Internet Explorer toolbar, click the Parental Control icon.
  2. Click Allow this Web site.
  3. To block access to all pages on the Web site, click Allow the whole Web site. To allow access to just the current page, click Allow this part of the Web site.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Type your Parental Control password, and then click OK.
Viewing a List of Recently Visited Web Sites List

The Webpage Filter keeps track of the Web sites that users of your computer have recently visited. It also lists unsuccessful attempts to visit Web sites that are blocked by the filter.

To view the list of recently visited Web sites:
  1. Open Shaw Secure.
  2. Click the Parental Control tab.
  3. Click the Advanced button.
  4. Click to Website List.
  5. Choose the profile, Teenager or Child.
  6. Click the History. A list of recently visited Web sites will be displayed.

The list will show the Web site address, the date it was last visited and the number of visits. If a Web site was blocked by the Web page Filter's automatic filtering rules, an icon that corresponds to the type of objectionable content will be displayed (e.g., adult, gambling, weapons, etc.).

  • To empty this listing, click Empty.
  • To allow access to a Web site in this list, click the Web site, and then click Allow.
